RBI has updated guidelines for pension disbursement
Recently, the RBI updated its guidelines in the Master Circular, clarifying a few key points pensioners should be aware of. Let us look into some of them. Whenever the government increases the rate of dearness relief, banks are expected to update the pension amount and pay the revised sum to the pensioners accordingly. The RBI mandates that banks determine revised DR payments either by receiving government directives via mail, fax, or email, or by referring to relevant government websites. Pensioners do not need to visit a bank to submit their life certificate. They can do it digitally using the Jeevan Pramaan portal, but only if the Pension Sanctioning Authority is also registered on the platform. The RBI has directed banks to facilitate life certificate submission at the homes or premises of super senior citizens who are over 70 years old or have a serious illness or disability including vision problems. In case a pensioner passes away, the family pension will be credited to the same account, provided the spouse is listed in the Pension Payment Order (PPO). There’s no need for the surviving spouse to open a fresh account. This reduces paperwork during already tough times. Whenever you submit your life certificate, the bank must give you a signed acknowledgement slip. If you’re submitting it digitally, they can provide a digital receipt too. This helps keep track and avoids confusion later. If your pension or arrears are paid late, banks must compensate you with interest at 8% per year from the due date and this money should be directly credited to your account.
White House unveils new trade document
The document is an updated version of the “Liberation Day” tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump on April 2. Initially, India’s tariff rate was mentioned as 27% in the earlier version of the White House annex. However, the latest revision has adjusted it to 26%. The update also included tariff changes for at least 14 other countries, including South Korea, Botswana, Cameroon, Malawi, Nicaragua, Norway, Pakistan, the Philippines, Serbia, South Africa, Thailand, Vanuatu, and the Falkland Islands. A report by Bloomberg on Thursday had found differences in the White House’s published data. The tariff rates in the annex were different from the figures shown in the charts during Trump’s original announcement. For example, South Korea’s rate was listed as 26% instead of 25%. Under the executive order that enforces Trump’s reciprocal tariff policy, all US trading partners are subject to a 10% global tariff, which took effect on 5 April. However, some countries, as mentioned in the annex, will have higher tariffs, including India at 26%. The revised annex also removed some territories that were included in earlier versions. For example, Reunion, which was previously listed with a 37% tariff, along with Saint Pierre and Miquelon and Norfolk Island, were not included in the final document.
Sensex plunges 930 points
At one point during the trading session, the Sensex had crashed over 1,000 points, and the Nifty50 plunged to trade below 22,900. Benchmark stock market indices fell sharply on Friday as both the Sensex and Nifty closed over 1% lower. Shares of metal, realty, pharma, information technology, auto and oil & gas suffered deep cuts. And all sectoral indices ended the session in negative territory. Some of the top gainers on the Nifty50 were Tata Consumer Products, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, Nestle India and Apollo Hospitals. On the other hand, the top losers were Tata Steel, Hindalco, ONGC, Tata Motors and Cipla. Tata Steel fell as much as 9% on concerns over Donald Trump’s tariffs. Among auto stocks, Tata Motors was hit hard by Trump’s 25% tariff on automobiles. Tata Motors stock fell nearly 7% during the session. IT stocks such as Wipro, Tech Mahindra, L&T, HCLTech, TCS and Infosys also suffered deep cuts due to fears of rising inflation in the US. It is worth noting that Indian IT services companies depend heavily on US operations for their revenue.

এপ্রিলেই চালু হবে এসপ্ল্যানেড থেকে শিয়ালদা মেট্রো?
মেট্রোযাত্রীদের (Metro passenger) জন্য সুখবর। অপেক্ষা অবসান হতে চলেছে। এপ্রিলেই চালু হয়ে যেতে পারে এসপ্ল্যানেড (Esplanade) থেকে শিয়ালদা (Sealdah) পর্যন্ত মেট্রোরেলের যাত্রা। এমনটাই খবর পাওয়া গেছে সূত্র মারফত। আগামী ২৪ এপ্রিল প্রধানমন্ত্রী মোদির (Narndra Modi) হাত ধরে এই যাত্রার শুভ সূচনা হতে পারেন। ভার্চুয়ালি উদ্বোধন (Virtual Inauguration) করবেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী। শিয়ালদা ও এসপ্ল্যানেড দুটিই অত্যন্ত ব্যস্ততম জংশন। অফিস থেকে ব্যবসায়ীদের বেশি আনাগোনা এই পথ ধরেই। ফলে এসপ্ল্যানেড থেকে শিয়ালদহ পর্যন্ত যাত্রা শুরু করলে যাতায়াত অনেক সহজ হবে। মেট্রোর সূত্রের খবর, এখনও পর্যন্ত এই পথের ‘সিআরএস’ বা কমিশন অফ রেলওয়ে সেফটি (Commission of Railway Safety) পরীক্ষা হয়নি। কিন্তু দ্রুত এই পরীক্ষার এবং ইন্ডিপেন্ডেন্ট সেফটি অ্যাসেসমেন্ট বা আইএসএ-এর জন্যও অনুমোদন মিলবে। উদ্বোধনের কিছুদিন পর থেকে যাত্রা শুরু হবে। হাওড়া থেকে সেক্টর ফাইভ পর্যন্ত ইস্ট-ওয়েস্ট মেট্রোরেল ইতিমধ্যেই সেক্টর ফাইভ থেকে শিয়ালদহ এবং হাওড়া ময়দান থেকে এসপ্ল্যানেড পর্যন্ত চলাচল করছে। এসপ্ল্যানেড থেকে শিয়ালদহ, এই মেট্রোপথ গিয়েছে বৌবাজার হয়ে। ২০১৯ সালের আগস্ট মাসে বৌবাজার এলাকায় মেট্রোর সুড়ঙ্গপথে মাটি ধসে যায়, ফলে কিছু বাড়ি হেলে যায়, বাড়ি ভেঙে পড়ার ঘটনাও ঘটে। জরুরি ভিত্তিতে এলাকা থেকে বাসিন্দাদের নিরাপদে সরানো হয়। পরবর্তী সময় খুব সতর্কভাবে কাজ করে মেট্রো কর্তৃপক্ষ। রেললাইন পাতার কাজ সম্পন্ন হয়, সফলভাবে বৌবাজার থেকে এসপ্ল্যানেড পর্যন্ত মেট্রোর ট্রায়াল রান সম্পন্ন হয়।
আর্থিক দুর্নীতি, চার্জশিটে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর কন্যার নাম!
আর্থিক দুর্নীতির অভিযোগে কেরালার (Kerala) মুখ্যমন্ত্রী পিনারাই বিজয়নের (Pinarayi Vijayan) কন্যা বীণা বিজয়নের (Veena Vijayan) নাম উঠল এসএফআইও চার্জশিটে। কোন পরিষেবা না দিয়েও সিএমআরএল (CMRL) সংস্থার থেকে অসদুপায়ে বীণার সংস্থা এক্সালজিক সলিউশনস (Exalogic Solutions) ২.৭ কোটি টাকা পেয়েছে বলে অভিযোগ এসএফআইও’র। এসএফআইও-র এই তদন্ত প্রক্রিয়ায় সবুজ সংকেত দিল মিনিস্ট্রি অফ কর্পোরেট অ্যাফেয়ার্স। কোচি মিনারেলস অ্যান্ড রুটাইল লিমিটেডে আর্থিক জালিয়াতি কাণ্ডের তদন্তে সিরিয়াস ফ্রড ইনভেস্টিগেশন (SFIO) অফিসের চার্জশিটে অভিযুক্ত হিসাবে কেরালার মুখ্যমন্ত্রী পিনারাই বিজয়নের কন্যা বীণার নাম ওঠায় চাঞ্চল্য ছড়িয়েছে। তদন্তকারীর চার্জসিটকে অনুমোদন দিয়েছে শিল্প ও বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রক। কার্যত কোনও পরিষেবা না দিয়ে মনগড়া নানা রকম খরচ দেখিয়ে অর্থ আত্মসাৎ করার এই অভিযোগে এসএফআইও ২০১৩ সালের কোম্পানিজ আইন অনুযায়ী তদন্ত শুরু করে। আর সেই সূত্রেই এক্সালজিক সলিউশন প্রাইভেট লিমিটেডের ডিরেক্টর বীণা বিজয়ন ২.৭ কোটি টাকা আত্মসাৎ করেছেন বলে অভিযোগ। অভিযোগ প্রমাণিত হলে তাঁর দশ বছরের কারাদণ্ড এবং যে পরিমাণ টাকা জালিয়াতির অভিযোগ, তার তিনগুণ অর্থ ফেরত দেওয়ার নির্দেশ দেওয়া হতে পারে।
